Contai

The place where I spent my childhood.

I was brought up in this small and peaceful town on the east coast of India, in the state of West Bengal. Kanthi, or Contai, means "sand-bound reefs". My hometown, Contai is about 160 km from Kolkata, the state capital, and 31 km from the beach town, Digha. Climate here is very pleasant with average summer and winter temperatures, and a lot of rain in monsoon season. Contai is famous for its tourism, cashew crop, fishing and processing industries. Popular tourist attractions like Digha, Mandarmani, Junput, Tajpur, Sankarpur, Baguran-Jalpai, Bankiput beaches are located near Contai town. Petuaghat and Soula are two of the fishing ports near Contai.

Among many festivals in Contai, "Gandhi Mela" is the most popular. It is a type of fair. It is held during February every year and it continues for 10 or 15 days.

In 2003, I moved to Contai to begin my schooling from Contai Public School. My father had been appointed as an Assistant Teacher at DKBH School in Khejuri, around 20 km from Contai. Let me brag about me a little. In 2016, I passed my ICSE (Standard-10) examination standing 1st among my batchmates and graduating my school education by passing ISC (Standard-12) examination in 2018, standing 2nd among my batchmates. I received the prestigious JBNSTS scholarship in 2016 and received many awards for Science Olympiads. I have also been awared as the Best Boy of the year in 2018. With my ISC certificate, I ended my schooling and moved to Kolkata for higher education, being admitted to Scottish Church College initially and then transfered to Presidency University.
